Text for the Day -- Job 14:14-17 ---------- If mortals die, will they live again? All the days of my service I would wait until my release should come. You would call, and I would answer you; you would long for the work of your hands. For then you would not number my steps, you would not keep watch over my sin; my transgression would be sealed up in a bag, and you would cover over my iniquity.
Devotional ---------- Job gives a speech full of images of life as trouble, toil and little reward. In these verses he looks to God to hide him out in Sheol at his death, so that he would not be put to an end because of his sins. Hopefully Job desires that God would someday call for him and he would experience the forgiveness of his sins. On Holy Saturday Jesus is in the tomb. The whole creation is still, holding its breath, asking, "Can a human live again?" Live with that question today. Tomorrow God gives an answer. Can you live with that answer?
Prayer --------------- In all my dying be present, O God, and give me a living hope. Amen
