Text for the Day -- Isaiah 53:4-7 ---------- Surely he has borne our infirmities and carried our diseases; yet we accounted him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the punishment that made us whole, and by his bruises we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have all turned to our own way, and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
Devotional ---------- The greatest feat of victory over the powers of sin and death was won by an innocent lamb, who went silently to his death. He offered his life for the sake of the world. The Way of the Lamb is the path of unconditional love. It was prophesied by Isaiah in this Suffering Servant passage. It was lived by Jesus and demonstrated most powerfully on the cross. It is the path to which we are called. The Lamb of God took upon himself the sins of the world. He invites us to live out this unconditional love for others as a sign that he is alive and at work in the world still.
Prayer -------------- Give me courage to walk in your love, O Lord. Amen
