Text for the Day -- Psalm 57:4-7 ---------- I lie down among lions that greedily devour human prey; their teeth are spears and arrows, their tongues sharp swords.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens. Let your glory be over all the earth.
They set a net for my steps; my soul was bowed down. They dug a pit in my path, but they have fallen into it themselves. My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast. I will sing and make melody.
Devotional ---------- This psalm is a personal lament by David. His enemies are after him. But, he professes trust in God. He alternates between describing the agony of his situation and his praise of God for God's mighty acts of deliverance. He expresses two strong realities that we often experience in tension - life can be tough and God is present to carry us through it.
Prayer --------------- God, I do praise you for what you have done. Be with me in my struggle. Amen
