Text for the Day -- Psalm 120 ---------- In my distress I cry to the LORD, that he may answer me: "Deliver me, O LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue." What shall be given to you? And what more shall be done to you, you deceitful tongue? A warrior's sharp arrows, with glowing coals of the broom tree! Woe is me, that I am an alien in Meshech, that I must live among the tents of Kedar. Too long have I had my dwelling among those who hate peace. I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.
Devotional ------------------- This psalm is the cry of someone in exile, living far from the homeland of Israel. He almost sounds like someone captured and taken away. No doubt, this was a song sung when one was away, but it could also be the song one would sing on a return to Jerusalem. It is a song that can be sung in emotional or spiritual exile as well. It is a song that sings from a yearning heart.
Prayer --------------------- My heart so often yearns for you, O Lord, come and fill my soul with your presence. Amen
