Text for the Day -- Psalm 120

In my distress I cry to the LORD,
that he may answer me:
"Deliver me, O LORD,
from lying lips,
from a deceitful tongue."
What shall be given to you?
And what more shall be done to you,
you deceitful tongue?
A warrior's sharp arrows,
with glowing coals of the broom tree!
Woe is me, that I am an alien in Meshech,
that I must live among the tents of Kedar.
Too long have I had my dwelling
among those who hate peace.
I am for peace;
but when I speak,
they are for war.
Devotional

This psalm is the cry of someone in exile, living far from the
homeland of Israel. He almost sounds like someone captured and taken
away. No doubt, this was a song sung when one was away, but it could
also be the song one would sing on a return to Jerusalem. It is a
song that can be sung in emotional or spiritual exile as well. It is
a song that sings from a yearning heart.

My heart so often yearns for you, O Lord, come and fill my soul with
your presence. Amen
