Text for the Day -- Luke 5:33-36 ---------- Then they said to him, "John's disciples, like the disciples of the Pharisees, frequently fast and pray, but your disciples eat and drink." Jesus said to them, "You cannot make wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them, can you? The days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days." He also told them a parable: "No one tears a piece from a new garment and sews it on an old garment; otherwise the new will be torn, and the piece from the new will not match the old."
Devotional ---------- Jesus clearly declares that in his coming God is doing a new thing. God is present in Jesus with love, grace and healing. The old covenant will not be able to contain this new thing. God does surprise us with new expressions of grace. God continues to put new challenges before us as we journey, both personally and historically. God will not be frozen in any particular time or form, especially if they are our projections or boxes. We need to be aware of what and where God is moving with his grace today.
Prayer --------------- Open my eyes to see the places of newness that you are creating, O God. Amen
