Text for the Day -- Luke 3:23

Jesus was about thirty years old when he began his work. He was the
son (as was thought) of Joseph son of Heli.

This verse begins a series of verses that contains a geneology of
Jesus. It traces Jesus' geneology back to Adam through the linneage
of David. Luke is concerned to show the identification of Jesus with
all of humanity and not just his Jewish heritage (which the Gospel of
Matthew contains). Jesus was about thirty years old, states Luke,
when he began his public ministry. Little is known of Jesus' early
life before this time.

Lord, help me to show forth Jesus as the savior for all nations and
peoples and not just my own kind. Amen
