Text for the Day -- Luke 7:31-35 ---------- "To what then will I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like? They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another,
'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not weep.'
For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, 'He has a demon'; the Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, 'Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Nevertheless, wisdom is vindicated by all her children."
Devotional ---------- Humans are so fickle. Most of the time we don't know what we want or what is best for us. John the Baptist came as an ascetic. Jesus came as a free spirit, connecting with all the people. Both were rejected by the leaders, possibly because the leaders were leading compromised lives. They were lacking both passion for holiness and compassion for those in need. Wisdom is vindicated by those who choose life as revealed in God's messengers.
Prayer ---------- Give me courage to be a child of wisdom, Lord, and to choose wisely for whom I shall live. Amen
