Text for the Day -- Deuteronomy 6:4-9 ---------- Hear, O Israel: The LORD is our God, the LORD alone. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead, and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Devotional ---------- Love toward God is at the center of the covenant that God makes with us. God's work of love in delivering the Israelites from bondage witnesses to God's role in renewing life. God invites our love in return, and provides teaching to direct our love response toward God. These commandments are not given so that we can win God's love or favor. They were given to aid us in responding to the God initiated love that was directed to us.
Prayer ------------------ Thank you for your love of my life, O Lord. Teach me to love in return. Amen
