Text for the Day -- Psalm 112:1-5 ---------- Praise the LORD! Happy are those who fear the LORD, who greatly delight in his commandments. Their descendants will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in their houses, and their righteousness endures forever. They rise in the darkness as a light for the upright; they are gracious, merciful, and righteous. It is well with those who deal generously and lend, who conduct their affairs with justice.
Devotional ---------- The prosperity and the good life of the righteous are lifted up as a sign of God's favor and blessing. Living justly, giving to the poor, loving God's teaching and doing business justly are the expressions of life lived out in faithfulness to God and God's teachings. Notice how the psalm begins with the ritual cry of the Hebrews, "Praise the Lord." Not a bad beginning for a reflection on God's love and grace.
Prayer ------------- I bless you for your goodness to me, O Lord. Amen
