Text for the Day -- Jeremiah 3:6-10---------- The LORD said to me in the days of King Josiah: Have you seen what she did, that faithless one, Israel, how she went up on every high hill and under every green tree, and played the there? And I thought, "After she has done all this she will return to me"; but she did not return, and her false sister Judah saw it. She saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel, I had sent her away with a decree of divorce; yet her false sister Judah did not fear, but she too went and played the . Because she took her dom so lightly, she polluted the land, committing adultery with stone and tree. Yet for all this her false sister Judah did not return to me with her whole heart, but only in pretense, says the LORD. Devotional---------- Infidelity in human relationships was a metaphor several of the prophets used to describe the faithlessness of Israel when Israel turned from God to other gods. This happened when Israel forgot the covenant relationship that they had with God that said they would worship God alone. God warned Judah that Israel's faithlessness, which was punished, would become their fate as well, unless they repented and returned to God in worship, trust and righteous living. Prayer------------------ Keep my memory alive with your commitment to me, O God, and my commitment to you. Amen
