Text for the Day -- Psalm 51:6-12 ----------
You desire truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have crushed rejoice. Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit.
Devotional ---------- Psalm 51 contains David's cry of repentance as he seeks God's mercy to renew him through forgiveness. He has felt a deep separation from God and defilement in his guilt. He has experienced the sense of losing the presence of God's Spirit that carries the energy of joy and faithfulness within him. This prayer is a cry for renewal that he may worship and serve through his calling as God's servant to others. He had abused his power as king and servant of God. He is restored by God's mercy.
Prayer ------------------ Gracious God, help me hear your call to repentance when I stray and give me courage to seek your mercy. Amen
