Text for the Day -- Mark 10:13-16 ---------- People were bringing little children to him in order that he might touch them; and the disciples spoke sternly to them. But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, "Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it." And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them.
Devotional ---------- Jesus saw every person, no matter their age, as a person to be acknowledged, loved and respected. Many people disregard children as being very important until they grow up. Often they are treated as property rather than a person, as if they were a possession and not an independent individual. Jesus used a child as an example of those to whom the kingdom belonged. No doubt he was referencing the simple trust, vulnerability and openness of children as an example of how to enter the kingdom of God.
Prayer --------------- May your Holy Spirit bring forth childlike qualities in me, gracious God. Amen
