Text for the Day -- Psalm 5:1-7---------- Give ear to my words, O LORD; give heed to my sighing. Listen to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you I pray. O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I plead my case to you, and watch. For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil will not sojourn with you. The boa l will not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers. You destroy those who speak lies; the LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful. But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love, will enter your house, I will bow down toward your holy temple in awe of you. Devotional---------- This psalm is a cry for help for personal deliverance from an enemy. There are many psalms of this type and they follow a similar pattern. These psalms became part of the sacred literature to be used by individuals in their devotion and by the congregation for communal prayer. Notice particularly how the psalmist acknowledges that it is through the abundance of God's steadfast love that he is guided to prayer and humility. Prayer----------------- Teach me the path of humility through your love, O God. Amen
