Text for the Day -- Zechariah 10:1-3 ---------- Ask rain from the LORD in the season of the spring rain, from the LORD who makes the storm clouds, who gives showers of rain to you, the vegetation in the field to everyone. For the teraphim utter nonsense, and the diviners see lies; the dreamers tell false dreams, and give empty consolation. Therefore the people wander like sheep; they suffer for lack of a shepherd. My anger is hot against the shepherds, and I will punish the leaders; for the LORD of hosts cares for his flock, the house of Judah, and will make them like his proud war-horse.
Devotional ---------- The Lord controls nature and history. This was the faith of Israel and a theme the prophets often spoke about. We look to God for the nourishment of nature, but also look to God's guiding hand in the events of history. God spoke through the prophet Zechariah to challenge the leaders of Israel who were not faithful to God in their leadership of the people. God reiterates his promise through the prophet to be the faithful Shepherd of his people in spite of the leaders. This reminds us not to put ultimate faith in human leaders but only in God.
Prayer ---------------- Continue to be my Shepherd, gracious God. Amen
