Text for the Day -- Mark 9:38-41

John said to him, "Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your
name, and we tried to stop him, because he was not following us." But
Jesus said, "Do not stop him; for no one who does a deed of power in
my name will be able soon afterwards to speak evil of me. Whoever is
not against us is for us. For truly I tell you, whoever gives you a
cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ will by no
means lose the reward."

How broad is your vision of the kingdom of God? Do you feel like you
and your "group" have exclusive rights to the name of Jesus? I often
hear people speaking that way. Jesus is beyond being owned by us. We
do not own Jesus and thereby control the use of Jesus' name. We do
not own the church we participate in. Christ is the head of the
church. Jealousy and undue control are enemies of the unity of the
church and the kingdom of God.
Prayer

Gracious God, remind me when I begin to take control of the kingdom
or the church. Amen
