Text for the Day -- Mark 8:14-17 ---------- Now the disciples had forgotten to bring any bread; and they had only one loaf with them in the boat. And he cautioned them, saying, 'Watch out-beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.' They said to one another, 'It is because we have no bread.' And becoming aware of it, Jesus said to them, 'Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not perceive ounderstand? Are your hearts hardened?'
Devotional ---------- There is a yeast that produces negative bread. Jesus warns of the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy, and the yeast of Herod which is worldly and irreligious. This yeast produces negative factors, depriving growth and life satisfaction. The disciples do not understand. They are thinking of physical bread. Beware the difference between the bread that feeds the soul and the bread that destroys the soul.
Prayer -------------- Give me a discerning heart, O God, to know good spiritual food and bad. Amen
