Text for the Day -- II Corinthians 7:10-12 ---------- For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret, but worldly grief produces death. For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves guiltless in the matter. So although I wrote to you, it was not on account of the one who did the wrong, nor on account of the one who was wronged, but in order that your zeal for us might be made known to you before God.
Devotional ---------- Paul writes to the Corinthians in response to the news that reconciliation has taken place between them. He makes a clear distinction between godly grief and worldly grief. Godly grief leads to repentance, that is, a change of heart. Such work is the work of God. Godly grief is the grief over a broken relationship. Godly grief heals and restores through a response to the loss that opens the door to forgiveness and a desire to be forgiven.
Prayer ----------------- Fill my heart with compassion, Lord, so that I yearn for reconciliation when a break occurs. Amen
