Text for the Day -- Leviticus 21:1-4 ---------- The Lord said to Moses: Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them:
No one shall defile himself for a dead person among his relatives, except for his nearest kin: his mother, his father, his son, his daughter, his brother; likewise, for a virgin sister, close to him because she has had no husband, he may defile himself for her. But he shall not defile himself as a husband among his people and so profane himself.
Devotional ---------- The priests in the Old Testament were limited in touching of a dead person. They would be considered to be "defiled," if they violated this law. When Jesus was asked to come to the aid of Jairus' daughter he moves boldly to the task, even after he is told that she was dead. In a sense she is a member of his family. He lays the taboo aside and reaches down and takes her hand and lifts her up to life.
Prayer -------------- Lord Jesus, you have conquered death for us all and you give us a wonderful promise of life forever. Amen
