Text for the Day -- Psalm 149:1-5

Praise the Lord!
Sing to the Lord a new song,
his praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel be glad in its Maker;
let the children of Zion rejoice in their King.
Let them praise his name with dancing,
making melody to him with tambourine and lyre.
For the Lord takes pleasure in his people;
he adorns the humble with victory.
Let the faithful exult in glory;
let them sing for joy on their couches.
Devotional

There is a difference between happiness and joy. Happiness is
generally understood as a response to favorable circumstances. Joy,
in the Bible, is linked to a consciousness of God's loving and
gracious presence. Joy is a gift God gives through the Holy Spirit
into our lives. Joy is the emotion of a poor man rich in Christ's
grace and love. Joy is the emotion of sins forgiven and new life
brought forth within us.
Prayer

Fill my heart with your presence, Lord, that I may live in that joy.
