Text for the Day -- III John 1-4

The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.
Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in
good health, just as it is well with your soul. I was overjoyed when
some of the friends arrived and testified to your faithfulness to the
truth, namely, how you walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than
this, to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
Devotional

The Apostle John commends Gaius and the early Christian community
there. Gaius apparently welcomed and took care of traveling
missionaries in the early church. Gaius was faithful to the truth of
the Gospel as taught by John and he aligned himself with John and not
the dissenters who were challenging John's authority as an apostle.
There will be those in the church who will be captured by their egos
and fail to sense the truth of the apostolic teaching.
Prayer

Keep me faithful to my calling as your child and witness, gracious
God. Amen
