Text for the Day -- Psalm 80:1-3, 8-9, 14 ---------- Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock! You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh. Stir up your might, and come to save us!
Restore us, O God; let your face shine, that we may be saved.
You brought a vine out of Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it. You cleared the ground for it; it took deep root and filled the land. Turn again, O God of hosts; look down from heaven, and see; have regard for this vine.
Devotional ---------- What an interesting image - 'let your face shine that we may be saved.' It is as if the psalmist is saying that when God's face is turned toward you and shines, you will experience God's deliverance and Resurrection. The psalmist calls out to God who is the Shepherd of Israel. The psalmist also uses the image of the vineyard to describe their relationship with God.
Prayer ---------------- Let your face shine upon me, O Lord. Amen
