Text for the Day -- Psalm 77:1-3 ---------- I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, that he may hear me. In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying; my soul refuses to be comforted. I think of God, and I moan; I meditate, and my spirit faints.
Devotional ---------- The personal lament of this psalmist is an expression of an honest struggle. It is as if God is far away. The psalmist has to speak out loud. God's presence seems to be absent. Thinking and meditating on God's presence did not bring comfort or confidence. It is good to be honest when we are "flat out" not experiencing the presence of God. But, do not stop praying on that account. God will not be gone for long.
Prayer ---------------- Teach me to wait in expectant hopefulness, O God. Amen
