Text for the Day -- Job 4:17-21 ---------- Can mortals be righteous before God? Can human beings be pure before their Maker? Even in his servants he puts no trust, and his angels he charges with error; how much more those who live in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed like a moth. Between morning and evening they are destroyed; they perish for ever without any regarding it. Their tent-cord is plucked up within them, and they die devoid of wisdom.
Devotional ---------- Job's friends are convinced that Job has sinned greatly. They blamed all of his tragedy on him supposing that he had really turned away from God. They question whether anybody can be innocent before God if they are suffering from a tragedy. We have to be careful how we solve the question of the righteous suffering with a simple answer. Job is being tested and no one can read another's motives. Suffering happens to the just and the unjust. It is a mystery why the righteous should suffer.
Prayer --------------- Help me remember that you are with me in all my suffering, Lord. Amen
