Text for the Day -- Psalm 79:1-5, 9 ---------- O God, the nations have come into your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple; they have laid Jerusalem in ruins. They have given the bodies of your servants to the birds of the air for food, the flesh of your faithful to the wild animals of the earth. They have poured out their blood like water all around Jerusalem, and there was no one to bury them. We have become a taunt to our neighbours, mocked and derided by those around us.
How long, O LORD? Will you be angry for ever? Will your jealous wrath burn like fire? Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and forgive our sins, for your name's sake.
Devotional ---------- Why do the good suffer? Why do God's people suffer attacks and terror? The psalmist reflects on such actions. He feels that God's anger is directed toward them. He wants God to reverse the circumstances. He calls on God for deliverance and forgiveness of sins. The psalmist still looks to God for salvation even though it seems that God is rejecting and judging them. That's trust in a relationship!
Prayer ---------------- Keep my trust in your love and grace alive in me in all circumstances, Lord. Amen
