Text for the Day -- Romans 11:13-18 ---------- Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I glorify my ministry in order to make my own people jealous, and thus save some of them. For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead! If the part of the dough offered as first fruits is holy, then the whole batch is holy; and if the root is holy, then the branches also are holy.
Devotional ---------- As a gentile you have been grafted on to the tree of salvation, which is rooted in God's initial call and ministry to Israel. Those who have rejected Jesus have made room on the tree for the inclusion of the gentile world through God's grace. The door is flung open to receive all - gentile unbelievers and Jewish persons who see in Jesus God's love and grace for their lives. The church must always see itself as the grafted on branch and be thankful for the grace of God that made it possible. The church must also be open to the Jewish community - grateful for their history, which has become our history - and hospitable to them in every way.
Prayer ------------ Keep my heart humble and free from any religious prejudice, gracious Lord. Amen
