Text for the Day -- Proverbs 1:1-7 ---------- For learning about wisdom and instruction, for understanding words of insight, for gaining instruction in wise dealing, righteousness, justice, and equity; to teach shrewdness to the simple, knowledge and prudence to the young- let the wise also hear and gain in learning, and the discerning acquire skill, to understand a proverb and a figure, the words of the wise and their riddles.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Devotional----------
In many references throughout the book of Proverbs the one who is open to wisdom and learning is the simple one who responds openly to wisdom's invitation. Often with age, cynicism and scoffing enter our lives and perspective. We are thrown enough curves in life to be wary of advice from others, even God. The invitation from wisdom is to let our guard down and and be open to instruction. Fools despise wisdom and instruction says Proverbs. Fools say in their heart that there is no God according to the psalms. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." Awe of God opens the door of spiritual growth.
Wisdom waits for the doors to open.
Prayer
O God, I bow before your wisdom and desire to learn from you. Amen
