Several years ago I dug a small pond and stocked it with channel cats. For the past few years I have been feeding them dog food and other scraps,so this weekend I decided to take a few. To my surprise they are about 18 to 20 inches and weigh approx. 4-5 lbs. Now I have skinned a lot of bullheads and some small catfish in my day but these guys had a hide on them that wouldn't come off. Any suggestions on a good way to dress these size cats?

I fillet cats of that size the same way I fillet a bass, walleye or whatever. If you want to peel the hide off, a pair of regular catfish skinning pliers is hard to beat.

After years of struggling to rip the hide from a catfish with pliers, an old river aficianado showed me that a cat can indeed be filleted exactly the same as any other fish. I could hardly believe my eyes. Now that is the only way to clean a fish!

THANK YOU: I will try the fillet method on the next batch I catch.
