THere is supposed to be a major emergence of Cicadas this year. I lived in MD in the 1980s when this occurred, the bugs falling into the water triggered some oe the best fishing that I have ever experienced. Bass and large bluegill were on a frenzy during this time. parson

I don't doubt it one bit...Should make for some good top-water fishing and some hefty fish...

we just had cicadas in 2004 i believe. I thought it was only every 17 years or something close to that. I guess they don't all come out the same year. The top water bass fishing that year was great. In fact i don't think its been that good since then.

There are different species of Cicadas. I hope we have a big hatch this year. It helps a lot of animals and fish, including turkeys.

There is a 'catch' though(no pun intended). The first few days are GREAT. After that, when the bugs are floating all over the surface, turn around at once, buy some beer(as if you hadn't already done that!), go home and fire up the grill. The fish ain't biting! After a few days, the fish are so stuffed on cicadas, the only thing they will hit is an Alka Seltzer! That has been my experience anyway. Once they start dropping into the water, the frenzy begins, and fishing is almost work. But there comes a time when the fish simply can't eat another bug. Get em while they are hot!
