Over the years the coal fly ash has been landing in the lake. The selenium in the lake is too high now for some reason. Not sure if it's coming from the smoke stacks or the cooling water or from the soil naturally. Not sure how long it's been in this lake as I don't know when they conducted the water sampling tests.
But the lake is closed indefinitely to fishing. As far as I am concerned that's not going to bother me about not fishing that lake as I only fished it one time and it put a ring around my boat's collar. I never went back. This was when Gibson Lake first opened. I caught a lot of tiny crappie near the buoys and one 6lb bass that acted like it was almost dead. Water was so warm that the fish could not get any dissolved oxygen and thus was very sluggish. Acted more like a cat fish when I reeled it in than a largemouth bass. The lake is a fish bowl and when the winds get up the lake can whip up some huge waves.
Its' a shame that the waters so hot and now it's contaminated with selenium.
Not sure if the fish were taking up the selenium or not. Wish I could remember more of the story that I read about this lake in the Evansville Courier and Press. You may find out more information about this lake by going back through some of the Pill Potter columns. I think you can find these in his achieves.

What surprises me is that no action has been taken against the power company. If there are pollution laws and regulations why have they not been inforced here? Where is the EPA on this one?
