I walked across my pond yesterday. Think I'm headed out Saturday.
Anybody ever try any of the ponds over at Crosley F&W Area?

They opened Muscatatuck Refuge but I didn't get down there. One guy I work with had 60 nice gills on Saturday.
I guess starting this year they're not checking the ice and opening the lake at 4" as years past. Now it's fish at your risk...
That poppin and cracking is the sound of making ice. Should be a good 6" by next weekend.

I drove through the Refuge on Friday and no one was out there at all. Ponds nothing. I know the ice pops and cracks but it was not the normal sounds that I usually here. Refuge use to be great. I dont like to go and catch little 5-6 inch blue gill. Then you get these guys that catch these little 3-4 inchers and keep them or just leave them on the ice. I guess they do not understand they will grow up if you throw them back. To each his own. The Refuge did not have there normal sign out that says open for ice fishing.

I love fishing the refuge. I fish it every May for gills and redear and thru the ice when the opportunity is there. If its not hand sized I let go. I still catch plenty of nice ones there.

Actually throwing back the little ones can do more harm when it comes to gills. They breed like rabbits anyways. If you are not catching the big ones or only small ones you really need to thin the population. Gills will overpopulate and stunt their growth fast.

I went by last night at the Refuge. There were 6 guys on Richart Lake. By the time I went and turned around and came back they were gone and that was at 5. Must not of been bitting. THis is kind of like the buck thing everyone shoots something different. I say people can shoot what they want and people can catch what they want and keep what they want.

Had about 4" yesterday on my 3/4 acre pond. Didn't check where there was minimal snow cover, but I can't imagine there being much less than that as cold as it's been.
There was a guy out on the ice last Friday on Lake Holiday, a private residential lake SW of Crawfordsville...

Caught a 5 gallon bucket full of gills yesterday evening. Bee moths on an orange/silver backed ice jig. The jig never got anywhere near the bottom of the pond before I had a fish on.
