OK so my day was going wonderfully I saw a lot of deer this morning all does and small bucks. Then this evening I am set up in a new place and after about an hour a little basket rack 6 walks in and starts browsing on acorns. I watch him and he tries to chase a few does and eats. Then I see him.... The grand daddy of all 8 pointers. He is comming in down wind from me (thought i was in trouble) but does not smell me. He is a sly one though and he is sticking to the only run that I can get a shot on. He starts browsing acorns as well and is browsing his way right to me. I am already standing and have the bow in my hand and i am waiting for him to get in to a shooting lane. After about half an hour he finally makes it to a shooting lane... the basket 6 is still browsing as well. I pull back and line up my pin he is only about 12 yards from my tree.... finger on the release and I squeeze.... just then (after being around that little buck for all that time) he turns to run the smaller buck off head down...... A perfect shot turns in to a perfect blunder I swear it was like slow motion I see the arrow flying and i know I am in trouble (again) and it hits him right in the top of the head. He goes down like a ton of bricks.... thelittle 6 runs off... my deer was down long enough for me to think well I guess that will work... hope the taxidermist can fix the hole. Then he jumps back to his feet (arrow sticking out of the top of his head) and stumbles ouf of my shooting lane and while stumbling starts snort-wheezing. His legs were shakey for a few minutes and then he seemed fine.... So fine in fact that he walked over to the next hill top (with out presenting a shot) and makes a scrape... all the while my arrow with the bright green fletchings is still hanging out of his head. He walks off ot the low ground and acts like he is fine.... I sat until just before dark.. (about another hour) and then climb down to look for any sing of blood and I found none at all. So what do you think will he come back to that area? Will he even survive?

I doubt you'll find that deer. The arrow will probably unscrew or break, and some guy will get a buck in firearms season with a strange lump on his noggin.
Everybody has a shot go wrong once in a great while. The important thing is that we all work hard so that such things stay as rare as they are. At least you looked for him.

What Henderson said.
The fact that he made a scrape after the encounter pretty well says it didn't bother him all that much.
Better luck next time.

Sounds like he just got stunned and the arrow didn't hit anything vital.... the part of the skull where the backbone meets it is pretty thick in spots... like Henderson said, will likely break the shaft off in the brush...
Take some practice shots on a target and get your confidence back up, and then get back on the horse...
Hang in there... you may get another crack at him...

Listen to what everyone is telling you-man, as much as we hate it, we`ve all been where you are now, and we know exactly how you feel. The whole deal stinks, from him moving at the last second, to hitting him where it just got crazy with him walking off and going about his business. You did everything right-it was one of those fluke things. Hard as it is to hear-shrug it off, DO NOT let this keep you from having a GREAT deer season, and it`s all up to you-to either move forward or let this eat at you. Good luck man-and know that you are due to have some GREAT fortune come your way. Make sure we hear the good story too-complete with photo`s.

Yeah after a day of thinking about it I have kinda shrugged it off. Also My buddy called and said he saw the buck today... Arrow is still in his head but he was hitting scrapes and even rubbed a tree... So now that I know he is going to be ok I am just gonna have to hunt him a little harder because now I have a mission for that paticular woods. I think when I get him and have him mounted I will ahve the arrow placed in the mount just to remind me because in the end this can be a very funny story (sad yes and never racking but over time funny)

Might try a drip bag and some active scrape on one of his spots and set up for him...
He's likely to scare every other buck off now... they won't know what to make of that new 32" G1 with the green top... LOL
