OK..
My son-in-law wants a left handed spin cast reel for his birthday.
At least that is what was relayed to me by my daughter.
What is he asking for and where is the best place to get it?
As you can see I am not much of a fisherman.
TIA..

Woody I always thought that a spin cast was just an open face reel (with a bail) nothing fancy. the handle is interchangable and can be left or right handed. If I'm wrong please someone set Woody and me straight.

Ahawkeye you are right it is just an open face reel ... unless she meant to say baitcaster in that case it is a different style all together. You might want to get an update from her or (it would ruin the suprise) get the info directly from him. if it is just a regular open face reel then i would go with a pfluger president or something along that line. I have 4 of them and love them all have never had a problem and 2 of them are about 3 years old (very old for a spinning reel if it is used alot) and I fish atleast once a week from April till October and in that time I have 2 week long fishing trips where I fish most all day every day.

Many spinning reels are designed to loosen & remove the crank handle screw so that it can be inserted into the gear body on the opposite side. I am left handed, and have to do this on the reels I purchase. Just be sure to re-insert the sleeve bearings & spacers in the proper positions.

She definetly said "spin caster"
I'll look at round and see what all is available.
Nice to know the handle can be switched to left handed.
Thanks guys...

A few of the "major" players in that market that I'm familiar with:
Shimano Quantum Daiwa Shakespeare
All these manufacturers have SEVERAL models and options in style, gear ratio, etc. which of course affects price. You can run the gammet of $20 to $200 , so you should be able to find something to suit his needs.
And as others have stated, the majority I've seen have an interchangeable handle.
I've always prefered Quantum and Shimano personally, but don't profess to be an expert angler by any means.

I have a Zebco Rhino spin cast reel that has a reversable handle. It's been a pretty good reel. I've had it a few years. I'm not certain that they still make them, but if they do, they're likely available in most sporting goods stores. parson

OK..
See if did OK..
I bought a Zebco Platimum 733 reel and a Rhino Industructible carbon rod for him.
He only asked for a spinning reel, but the rod put it up to what we normally spend for birthday presents.
