When it gets warm, you need a Coast Guard cutter to thwart the PWC's and other pleasure craft. Fish it on a weekday when its warm.

Good advice by chico. Nightime fishing may be your best bet if you have the nerve.(make certain you're highly visible) Avoid Tuesday afternoons, as the local bass club launches at the Olio road ramp approximately 3:00 pm. Very shallow water overall (4' average depth) Good largemouth and very large flatheads in the old creekbed. A relatively small reservoir --5 HP is plenty unless you're in a hurry. Don't overlook another closeby alternative-----Morse reservoir.

Good advice by all.... If you launch at Olio and head North (under the Olio Rd Bridge) it's a lot of backwater idlezone so you don't have to dodge 40' Baja's running 80mph! I echo huxbux about Morse.... Both lakes will need the deed to your home for the launch fee though! It's the biggest scam going in Central Indiana!!!!!

i agree with them-- i wouldnt recommend going out there on a weekend when it is warm i would rather go during a week day. all that boat traffic that place gets on weekends is unreal pluss the launch fee now on weekends is 27 bucks and only 11 on weekdays. i have been fishin there almost 2-3 times a week. catch alot of small bass but there are some big ones in there. there are two old strips pits in there that are good for crappie. and catfishing can be real good at times

yeah i know i probably wont go there anymore on the weekends unless we get a ton of rain. then i will go out catfishing but you can go out sometimes without paying when the guys head home for the night. they usaully leave there right before or right after dark. ive seen lots of guys do this. but yeah 27 bucks is outrageous when the idnr ramp sticker is only twenty and you dont have to pay at the other lakes unless you go to a state park ramp

They do have a 7-11 special on Geist and Morse...... Put your boat into the water before 7am, and have it out by 11am and you get $15 back on your $27 launch fee. It's still a huge rip off and IMO needs investigated as to why it's that much. People talk about gouging at the gas pump....this is next in line!

Back in the day, when I was a kid, we would skip school and go to Geist. Slide down the dam, hang at the showers at IMI. Catfish at Luxhaven. I don't think Luxhaven is even there anymore. I learned to water ski behind a bass boat there.

bigred, I must know you. Sounds like my childhood. Although the dam at Geist is a little steep for sliding, I tried it in my younger, stupider days. (ouch on the tailbone!) You can still fish from the bridge at Luxhaven after a big rain and get some really nice channel cat action. Wow, what a difference 40 years makes eh bigred?

Used to catch some nice crappies just downstream aways from Luxhaven. Back then we could put our john boat in on the causeways. Now I wouldn't give them a dime to launch my boat. Money spoils everything.

I have not fished on Geist in a few years but I never thought the launch was too bad. I always went on week days so it was like $10. On weekends I figured it was a supply and demand type thing. Never seemed to be a empty spot in the ramp parking lot so I am really suprised they didn't jump the price any more then they have. From where I lived it was either fish Morse or Geist and get more time fishing or drive further and pay my fees in gas money. I'd rather fish then drive.
I surely wouldn't drive very far to fish either of those lake though.

i was out there this morning bass fishing. there was a little tournament going on other than them there were only a couple of skiers out. caught all my bass on topwater (zara spook). caught one 3 lbr and 2 2lbrs. and a ton of little ones. threw a spinerbait about 4 times and put that rod back down.
