Last evening I got home and the wife told me that a fella had plowed a big buck right down the road from our neighborhood. She said the guy was still picking glass from his face when she pulled up and she checked to see if he was ok. He said the deer jumped out of the corn and he hit it (his car was REALLY messed up from what my wife said) and the buck ran off.
I had my buddy from Ohio with me so I threw on the rubber boots and grabbed some flashlights to go see if we could find it. Along the way down the drive we ran into I12hunt (Tony) and he soon joined the search. It wasn't hard finding some big buck tracks leading from the broken glass all over the road into a cut bean field. We only had to walk 50 yards and we could see the body (and rack) laying way out in the field....probably 400 yards or more. It was a NICE 8-pointer..... After a call to the Hamilton Co. Sheriff's dept we soon had a deputy writing me up a "tag" for the buck. The buck had already bloated up and had foamy blood coming from the mouth and nose so I knew it's lungs had probably been punctured. I ended up only taking the backstraps from it......never even gutted it figuring all the hams would be bruised up since there was obvious hair missing in the hind quarters.
I've got some pics that I'll get on here later today.....it was a shame the buck died that way but at least it didn't go totally to waste. Even with the big rack the buck looked very young... I threw a tape measure on it last night and it had a 21" inside spread...G2's were in the 101/2" range on each side. The buck would have grown to a ripe old age had he not gotten the business end of a car since you can't hunt them inside Noblesville city limits........
