The IDNR is establishing a measuring procedure for shovel nosed sturgeon.

Sec. 2. {b] (a) Except as provided in subsection (b),[/b] the measurement of the length of all fish species except for shovelnose sturgeon a fish shall be taken in a straight line from the tip of the snout with the mouth closed to the utmost end of the caudal (tail) fin when the fin is compressed so that the upper and lower lobes of the fin touch or overlap. (b) The measurement of the fork length of shovelnose sturgeon shall be taken in a straight line from the tip of the snout to the fork of the tail fin.
