And so am I . Picked him up from schoool today to go hunting. Should have brought him more cloths but he's been out in colder before and never had a problem. Anyway my Dad goes to his stand and us to ours. We're there for about 30 minutes when my son starts complaining about being cold. Give him dry mitts cover him with my bow case and he holds out about another 20. Finally he can't take it anymore. Fiquire he must have got sweaty during the day and his cloths where damp. Anyway we walk for awhile till he says he's warm so we sit on the edge of a field. Stay there for about 30 more mniutes and he's cold again. Fiquire the nights over so start walking back to get Dad. Turn a corner and of coarse there's three deer. Sneak up as close as I can about 25 yards from the fawn. Do a few fawn bleats and the doe starts coming. Tell my son to get down and I prepare for the shot. Comes over a knoll all I see is her head. I already have the bow up and just waiting. All of a sudden she starts going the other way. I quietly ask my son if he saw her. He says yeah but I had to stand up to see all of her   Anyway finally meet up with Dad. He can see the stand my son and I where in from his. First thing he says. To bad you had to leave there where three in front of it for about 10 minutes. Oh well next time. Sorry for the long post. It has sort of become a goal for me to get one when my sons with me.

What a great story-I`ll bet the kid had a big grin on his face as he told you he had to stand to see all of her. Just my opinion-but you couldn`t have had a better time even if you had put an arrow thru that girl. You can bet all of you will remember this evening`s hunt for a long time. Congratulations on that son with a hunters heart.

BigUgly, sound likes you have the right mind set. Kids are important and from the tone of your post seems like you had a grin as you were typing. Just wait until your son relates the same type of story about his son. As my son observed one day about us hunting: "we're building a tradition right?" Yup! Good Luck this season.

Yes, that is a "classic".
A day that will live forever in both of your memories.

My Dad talked to his Dad today and I quess he laughed like a loon over what his greatgrandson has been up to. He said now that kid is learning. Last two weeks he's learned not to talk and not to stand up when there's deer in front of you. Dad said when he told him what happened the other night he almost choked with laughter, said he went to get a coffee and when he got back he was still laughing but very proud to see his grandson out with great grandson. He said three generations in the field is good thing to see these days.

Big - I had a similar experience with my son last year (11 then) who thought he was dressed warm enough... got down out of the stand to give him one of my layers (flannel shirt), and as we're finishing re-dressing and he's tucking in his shirttail with pants unsnapped, an 8-point comes strolling by 35 yards off... he hammered it with his then-new Optima .50
And that buck, his first deer, is know fondly known in our hunting group as "The Shirttail Buck"... ;D
Ever since, I always pack an extra sweatshirt and warm hat in my backpack just in case... LOL

LOL These are the BEST stories-I`m really envious of you all who have son`s interested in hunting. I have twins-boy and girl-who will be 26 December 5, and truly, I couldn`t love them any more than I already do-but IF I could make one thing different, it would be that my son hunted with me. Ah well, anyway-simply fabulous stories from you guys about the kids hunting exploits-please do, enjoy these times, and please DO NOT take them for granted. They are the stuff life is made of.
