Hello everyone!
My Moultrie Game Spy 200 was stolen this winter and I am now in the market for a new one. The quality of pics the camera produced was good, however the trigger would not trip unless something passed in front twice each time. Is that a common problem?
Since I am in the market for a new trail camera, I am wondering if anyone would share their experiences with me, so I can make an educated decision on which to purchase.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hey 'livin'! Let me give a fellow Owen county boy some advice....Get your tail down to the Spencer Wal-mart ! They have ONE moultrie camera left in the clearance aisle. It was originally ~100 bucks and on sale now for ~50 dollars. I have 2 of these models and have zero complaints with them. Hope they have the one camera left if you are wanting it. Good luck and welcome to HI! Hoosier.

Hey livin, How much are you wanting to spend? I may be able to get you in a homebrew reasonably. BTW...the reason I started building homebrew cams was because I 4 moultries and NONE of them were worth a darn. I have built many cams for people who were tired of moultries not triggering...you are correct, mine took two triggers as well for it to snap a pic. Some were good, some not good that was the issue with moultrie it was a crap shoot when purchasing one. Also, when it finally triggered some of my pics were completely washed out! Below are some pics this summer from an IR and white flash cam. Lyman Here are

I'm not sure what my price range is. That would depend on the quality. Let's just say that I'm not willing to buy a new Cuddeback.

I am leaning toward the Moultrie i40. Anyone have feedback on that unit?

You can get into a 3.2 mp system for $200 if you find a good deal on a cam...the quality of pics are better. Good luck on the moultrie.

Buckeater,
I check my cams every 2 weeks and always have charge. I typically get anywhere from 150-300+pics from each cam as well. The big variance in cost is the "camera" itself. I use Sony P32, P41, and S600. I charge $55 for a complete camera build using a P41 or a P32 setup. I charge $67.50 for S600 complete build. Kits are around $100. I have got P32's anywhere from $30-$110...sometimes they come with cards as well. Example...$100kit, $55 for complete camera hack, camera build, 3D camo, and $75 P32..total cost to you ready to go would be $230. Thats just an example...but gives you a start.
Give me a buzz if you have any questionss 502-593-0833.

Well, I decided to go with the Moultrie D40. I just received them and put them out yesterday. Not the best day for doing that, but I just had to get them in the woods. Hopefully, I will be posting pics soon.

I think you made a good choice, the new Moultries have much better/quicker trigger speeds.

I got 4 of the Moultries from Wal_Mart. I got them for 88 each. I took in my Natchez Shooting supply mag. which had them for 88 and they matched the price. I am getting about 200-300 pictures per week. The batteries have been in for over a month and still have more than a 50% charge.

Looks pretty good.
What do you think of it now that you have it?
Did you get many pictures? Many "false" pictures? Batteries hold out pretty good? How's the trigger time?
Thanks for sharing! Robert

One of the cameras (which is where these three came from) had 15 events and 15 pics. The other camera had 10 events and 7 pics. The latter had three pics of a bird in the beans, so the three misses could have been birds or misfires, not sure. The batteries were brand new and after one week were down to 80%. They're supposed to last 60 days, but if I lose 20% per week, I will only get four weeks out of them because Moultrie recommends replacing the batteries when the reach 20% charge. The trigger seems to be much better than earlier models of Moultrie cameras. I was concerned because the camera "goes to sleep" after two minutes of inactivity, but as you can see in the picture of the smaller buck, he is just entering the frame of view when the camera woke up and snapped the pic.

Thanks Again for the info.
I wonder how accurate the battery meter really is. You might find that it stays at 80% for quite awile.
I was really concerned with the trigger time for the same reasons that you listed, but it does look much better than the piece of junk I bought a couple years back.
I've been reading some complaints about it losing time. I hope that's not a problem either.
Thanks again for sharing!
Robert
