I ended up talking myself into a new toy this week and it came in yesterday. It is an over-sized "Ten Cot". This thing is wicked! It is rated at 350#. While I am not that large (working on going the other way) it is nice to know I can put myself, my gear, and my gun in there with me. It doubles as a lounge chair, has a rain fly for wet weekends, folds up into its own carry bag, and is very sturdy. The thing weighs close to 20 pounds, but I don't do more than a mile pack-in for camp so it isn't bad. I got it through Bass Pro instead of Cabela's because this one has a higher "dome" roof.
I have a camp out with my Girl Scouts next weekend, so I will report back with my first "test" results.

My son likes to camp out with his buddies. Their usual routine is to decide they are camping about 1/2 hour before dark, build a fire, and call it camping. Bought him (2) of those cots for Christmas. Thought they'd be perfect for his impromptu style of camping.

Flat out, this thing is cool. Not just design and looks, but function. It was down in the mid 30's Saturday morning, I had left the door unzipped and did not even notice the fire had gone out. I was quite warm and was using just a 40 degree sleeping bag. Saturday night I went ahead and zipped everything up to see if there was a difference and buddy was there. The rain-fly has a vent on each end that needs to be used. The condensation on the inside was not a welcome addition to the weekend, but a small lesson learned.
It is a bit heavy and cumbersome to carry long distances, but quick and easy to set up, warm and comfortable to use, comfortable and provides a good nights sleep, and is quite a conversation piece.

I will be taking this for round number two this weekend. Weather is supposed to be 75 today with thunder storms tinight and uper 50's tomorrow. That should provide a great "test" weekend.
