You guys who live down south near the HNF are they areas to camp in the HNF? Places you can use a pop up? Someone told me last year there was a campground off of 37 that was cheap and had electric. Any one know the name? I'm trying to plan out a trip for turkey hunting down south if I don't get drawn for the local reservoir. Any help and advice would be appreciated. h.h.

You should be able to find a pull-off somewhere to set up in. There are several along the roads to set up in if you can do without electricity. We've been camping the last few years on a friends small private tract then walking into the Hoosier, so don't know how crowded it may be. Not sure about the campsite on 37 you're talking about, as we are way northwest of there. I can PM you some areas that hold good numbers of birds, but again not sure about the hunter numbers you'll encounter. Let me know.

Hello HH,
Well I'm about a year late answering this but maybe I can help. There are a ton of camping spots in the HNF and plenty of places you can get a large RV or trailer into. All of the sights are free but there is no electric or water hookups. I camp out there several times a year. There are also several campgrounds close to the HNF. You can camp at Paynetown for around $20 a day with full hookups and then there is Hardin Ridge campground and several others. If you want some more specific info just ask and I'll see what I can do.

Further south you get into the southern part of HNF which includes Indian and Celina lakes. You will find great campsites with water and electric. Not sure about sewer. Lots of birds and great fishing.

raporter is exactly right - they have some GREAT facilities, LOTS of birds & great fishing! There are actually 4 lakes - Tipsaw, Celina, Indian, & Saddle. The campgrounds however are only at Tipsaw & Celina (they are off of 37 going towards Tell City). Actually, they are not far (as a crow flies!) from where turkeys were first reintroduced into Indiana!
