I use to camp in the winter, but now that I'm older and wiser(lol) I stay inside where it's warm! It was always a lot of fun though, except for that early morning, "gotta go" run! ;D

Winter is my favorite time to camp. It's more of a challenge. Usually My freinds/ family and I will go once a month in the winter. Sometimes we backpack into a spot with what we can carry and that's it. We have to gather wood, build shelter, it's alot of fun.

I enjoy winter camping. The last couple years, my younger brother and I have camped in the snow in the Deam Wilderness Area near Monroe lake for part of ML season. We come in by canoe and can carry enough that way for a reasonably comfortable camp. This year we left camp up for a week, and when we came back the next weekend there had been eight inches of snow in the area and the tent was nearly flat! It recovered well after I knocked the snow off. Still learning some winter camp tricks.

I went camping up near Berian Springs MI in Feb., when I was back in high school. Me and 4 buddies went up for 3 days of fishing.... We had to dig out a spot for our tent in 3' of snow.....when we took the tent down at the end of the trip there were perfectly shapped impressions of our bodies in the ice and snow where our body heat had molded us into the ground as we slept. It was pretty cool.....literally!
Good times....but hadn't really done it since.

I had the "gotta go run" at Patoka one morning getting ready to go duck hunting. It was about 4:30 a.m. with an under 20 degree temp. a couple years back. I hit the seat of the outhouse just in time, and just about came unglued. That was the coldest my quarters had ever been. Don't ask me how the wind was whipping up under there, but it was COLD!

Just got in from a little camp out last night. Set up the wall tent in the woods at the back of the farm yesterday and pretty much hung out all day and night. Weather was gorgeous, and it just felt good to hang out in the woods.
A few buddies came over, we had a pot of camp fire chilli, roasted a pork loin on a spit, and generally had a ball. Got pretty chilly after dark, but that little woodstove in the wall tent keeps things nice and toasty.
Kind of a pain dragging all that junk out for a one nighter, but it's all put away now and it was fun.

We park a trailer out in the woods for deer season and use it for our deer camp. Of course...we now have running water and power run to it so no more "morning gotta go run" in the snow. And there sure was plenty of snow this year.

Dad was pretty slick on our troops winter camp. HE camped in his new (then) 1972 pace arrow motor home! I just knew I was gonna wind up like HatchetJack(Jermiah Johnson movie), they was gonna find me in the mornin froze to death!

Maumee is no fun in the rain during the summer; can't imagine what it's like in a cold rain!

Maumee is no fun in the rain during the summer; can't imagine what it's like in a cold rain! That's a popular public spot for turkeys. Hunters have been known to set up camp and get stranded in there when the water comes up after a hard rain. I believe they had to rescue some a few years back.

I think we may be talking about two different places... Maumee Boy Scout Camp is what I am (and I believe firstwd is too) talking about. I don't think theres any hunting allowed on the camp grounds.

The Boy Scout Camp is surrounded by HNF, but you have to be a Registered Boy Scout to be there. Hunting the property is a tricky business. One of our leaders is a Camp Master down there. He says hunting is permitted if no other use of the camp is going on. Basically, is nothing is scheduled, and you reserve a spot, you can hunt it. He said he has shot squirells out of Paunee all the time.
It doesn't look like we will have to worry about rain this year. Looking at a high of 12 Saturaday with temps dropping to around -5 Sunday morning. FANTASTIC!!
