My wife and myself and another couple are taking a 16 day trip out West. Going north first and then dropping down into Yellowstone. Coming straight back through South Dakota. Here is a list of places that have come up in several guides through the internet and AAA.

I doubt if we can see all these places and would like to pare the list down or add something else to it if it is really interesting.

Any of you that have went these routes or went to these places please give me some feedback of “tourist traps” or places I haven’t listed that we should see.

Sounds like a great trip and a pretty full schedule. If you're overnighting in Mitchell, SD hit Chef Louies for dinner and a buffalo steak. Nice place and good food.

We just did a nice family trip to Colorado. Had never been to that state before. Three families, (15) people, mostly teenagers. Rented a private home in the mountains at 9500ft, approx. 10 miles west of Winter Park.

Beautiful country and much cooler and less humid up high. Went to Rocky mountain national park, fly fished, white water rafted, hiked, etc. kids had never seen the mountains, and everyone had a ball.

Makes a guy wonder how in the heck he ever wound up here, living in the flat lands. Can't wait to get back out west in October.

BTW There is a great cabelas store just about 30 minutes south of the mall in Minn!

You will enjoy the passion play. We camped in Spearfish canyon next to a real nice little trout stream. Makes me want to pack up and head out now.
	Yes that is a real gun. No I don't have a permit for it. You got a permit to ask stupid questions?

Wild Bills death chair while holding the "dead mans hand" is in the #10 sallon there. It's a saloon that's like a musem. Amoung other things there in town.

Yes we did.

It was a blast. A good time was had by all.

Loved Yellowstone and the Black Hills of South Dakota..

Crazy town that was. I think the Doll museum sounds like a good place to leave the ladies while you go to Cabela's in Mitchell. The corn palace is kind of cool.

The # 10 saloon wasn't much to look at. It kind of reminded me of a couple neighborhood taverns in Evansville.

By the time we got to Mitchell the Doll Museum was closed. AHH..too bad.

The Corn Palace was being changed over at that time with a new design..

For those travelling the Dakotas, I can alos add Roosevelt National Park to the list of "neat places". The badlands of North Dakota are significantly differnet in appearance than South Dakota. Both are well worth the time spent. Also RNP is the least visited national park. No crowds!

We drove the loop there and had lunch at one of their picnic areas. That was our Labor day picnic. Nice place - saw lots of bison there.
