Fish & Wildlife Conservation Committee (Joint committee with reps from the IDNR and sportsmen's groups) meeting
October 28, 2006
Stuff you may find interesting:
1. High Fence settlement is going to show up as legislation in the next session. 12 years is the rumor
2. Conservation Officers graduated a class of 24 new folks (1 woman); most will begin work shortly and all will be on the job by April bringing the full complement up to speed.
3. Every IDNR Fish & Wildlife property will be doing a "hunter recruitment" event this next year. (Youth Hunts)
4. Glendale - where to begin? They started out wrong and now they (IDNR) are fighting bad publicity and rumor. The property is still ours and it will be years before anything can done and then only if everyone agrees. Good opportunity but...
5. Senior fishing license is going to legislature this year. $3.75 for an annual license and the state gets $8 from the feds for each one they sell. Otherwise our part of the Dingell-Johnson money goes somewhere else.
6. Currently 3 rules packages in the works. Pistol cartridge rifles seems to be the hottest one with comments flooding in and they haven't even had a public hearing yet. Most folks are in favor. Only 1 person attended the public hearing last Monday.
7. License sales in Indiana are up significantly this year. Most especially in the resident fishing license area. Please advise everyone to buy their deer license before Friday night before opening day to avoid locking up the computers at IDNR (again).
8. IDNR is proposing to the NRC next month 5 more years of the OBR.
9.Lots of dead deer being found in Parke and Putnam counties. EHD is really bad stuff.
10. Telecheck - IDNR biologists are resistant to this idea. The idea of checking deer is to gather biological data and that is not possible over the phone.
