There are several patches of purple loostrife along I70 west of Indy. Some one needs to spray that stuff before it spreads to wetlands all over the state.

Woody:
Thanks for the number. They transferred me to the District DOT office. And had no idea what I was talking about.
But someone will look into it.

FYI - I attended a presentation yesterday where the Federal DOT awarded a plaque to the Indiana DOT for roadside habitat projects. Actually the award was for a photo of roadside habitat. Anyway the presentation was held at the Frankfort sub-district garage where one of the two seed farms run by the state are located. Big secret - Indiana is the only state that has it's own seed farms to get prairie grass and wildflower seeds for their own use. They have an overall landscape plan that is rapidly taking shape. They will decrease the amount of mowing they do and begin to plant prairie grasses and wildflowers from the ditch to fence along all the major highways they maintain. This is a really ambitious and long-range project that INDOT deserves all the accolades they can get. So if you happen to be driving up I-65 or across I-70 or over on I-69, keep an eye out for these plantings. They will help give the critters a home, save the state money, and return some native prairie to Indiana. For more information contact Jeanette Wilson 317/232-5496.
