I've read that some guys tie the "anal canal" in a knot and pull it back through as to not chance any spoilage. Looks like a great tool though.

Sheesh ! All these gadgets, kits, etc. for dressing out a deer flip me out.
I've always found a sharp knife and not being afraid to get your hands a little bloody works just fine. Blood aint dirty .... it's the animals life blood, and getting a little on you is part of the deal.

See no need for it- I carry enough crap (no pun intended) in my pack as it is. For me, once I get to needing to address that part of gutting, I simply cut through the meat on top of the pelvic bone, saw through the pelvic bone with a folding bone saw (takes about 15 seconds), then pull on the intestine while cutting the anus out.
It's a simple process and ensures that everything is out and allows for a better wash out with clean water once back to the house....

I agree with danf, invest in one of those fine tooth folding saws, probably not much more than the Butt out tool, and saw through the pelvis and spread open for easy removal. I also use the saw, after cutting the hide, to split the ribcage for easy removal of the heart, lung and wind pipe. If your dragging your deer out of the woods and not using some kind of cart I would wait until you get the deer back to the vehicle to split open. By waiting you'll keep allot of dirt and leaves from getting into the opening.

My brother in law bought one of these. He has had nothing but grief from the rest of us about his buttplug tool. He likes it though and says it works great. Personally a sharp knife is all I've ever needed to field dress a deer.

I share the same thoughts as Danf. How many tools do you need? Some guys I hunt with have to buy every gadget on the market and still can't get a deer. The tools don't make the hunter, but admittedly might help from time to time. While this thing might work, it's not something I'm willing to spend even $10 on. I've probably gutted out 100 deer in my life and never needed one before. Harumpf!
