I've never used any sort of odor control clothing in the past, just to dang expensive. However, this year Cabelas has a few selections that are somewhat affordable and I'm in need of some new camo as my old stuff is about wore out and has several tears etc.. Is it worth the extra cost to get the scent control clothing or is it just another waste of money? Can a person do the same thing with the scent free soap and laundry detergent. That's what I've always done in the past and had success but I've always wondered what might have been if I had been using Scent Lok or Scent blocker clothing.

hey mrfixit, i like it,(scent-loc) its' helped me a few times when bucks and does passed behind me,down wind, one thing you brought up is the use of laundry detergent, this will fade your clothing ,sometimes big-time, i use sports-wash(walmart), its prevents color fading without residue, its great for high tech fabrics, it contains no bleach, phosphate, fabric softner, brightner, or scent. can you harvest deer with out scent -loc?? sure can!! we have been harvesting deer way before scent-loc came out, but usually they have the best fabrics in the higher dollar clothing and will last longer plus you want to look nice out in the wooooods! hope this helps ya . good luck...TAKE A YOUNGSTER ON YOUR NEXT OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE....TURKEY SCOUT

My own research into carbon based odor control has so far lead me to believe that at best it provides only temporary effect no matter what the manufacturers say. I've had deer approach to within literally spittin' distance one day, then shy away from me the very next despite every precaution I took to avoid contamination. The vast majority of the odor we emit comes from our noses and mouths anyway, so I don't waste my money buying those carbon suits, I just eat apples on stand and use baking soda for my clothing and showering rinse. The results have been the same.

I bought a suit and liked it at first. I'm not sure it was worth the money though. I have mixed feelings about it.

I bought a suit and tried it out and found it made no real difference.... after researcghing the idea of scent control clothing I found several studies that show that it does not work..... Who is to say who is right or wrong on this... I can only speak for myself here when I say I did not see any where near enough difference for the amount of money I spent.... Like was said earlier.. wash you cloths in baking soda it kills oder and does not fade the colors.... I also use a good cover scent and spray my boots and pant legs liberally.....

I certainly appreciate everyone's responses. I had a little money to burn, some Cabela's bucks just sittin' there and a triple point coupon so .... I really needed new camo ... I bought a few scent lok items. Mainly some bibs, a 3 in 1 parka, uninsulated jacket w/hood and new face mask. We always stop for breakfast and sometimes when we leave my street clothes smell like the breakfast shop and I'm tired of completely changing my clothes when I get to the huntin' spot. During early bow season it usually isn't to bad but late bow and on it gets a little iffy standin' out there freezin' yer buns off changin' clothes. I'll keep you posted. If it don't work I'll send it back, you spend a little more @ Cabela's but there is never any questions or BS when you return something and that's worth it's weight in gold!

hey mrfixit , trust me on this tip, RUBBER BOOTS and GLOVES are more important than a scent-loc suit, while scouting your area, hanging tree stands, and when its time to hunt, wear these idems and you will not contaminate your honey hole and of course pay attention to the wind, back in the dey that all i did was mess up the places i wanted to hunt, and i never give it any thought about what scent i left(use to wear leather boots) after i climbed down out of the tree. i use a climber summit viper ,after the evening hunt and i know i will be back in the morning,i remove my stand and hide it ,(use to leave it at bottom of tree(bad mistake),(scent is all over the seat) so when deer pass in the dark and maybe after i leave they will not be spooked, when i return to hunt the next morning, its helped me alot since i started thinking about scent. hope this helps you out, its works for me and good luck........TAKE A YOUNGSTER ON YOUR NEXT OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE.........turkey scout

I used to convince myself that it worked constantly, but I'm no so sure that it lasts very long and recharges like they say it does. I agree scent-killer and something for your breath are more important. I like the dead-down-wind foam alot for keeping in my stand to put in my hair and on my face and neck, it seems to help with sweat smells. I doubt I would spend the extra money for scent-lock, right now.

It works..I've shot deer at 15yrds on the ground, with deer downwind, using Scent Blocker..IMO it works and I've proven it to myself many times. You hvae to keep it clean, like anything.

The very first set I had about 5 years ago worked awesome, but the last two i bought weren't worth a hoot. Bottom line is that it's not a magic cure all but it cant hurt.

I have too with a cigarette (when I still smoked) and peeing at the same time. Had to throw the cigarette down to pick my gun up. All while a 130 class 8 point watched. He is now on my wall with the rest. I have always ground hunted, hell usually just standing behind a tree. don't get me wrong, I think scent has alot to do with it. But, I have always cared more about sound and movement and have never been skunked on a deer season in 27yrs. I have seen some strange things in my day. and Like they say even a blind squirrel gets a nut on occasion.

More to it than carbon and if you give it some thought you can see what is going on. For instance the fabric is kind of different isn't it, there's a reason. Have you cooked it yet? How'd it smell? Quit a bit to it, if it is known other items of the same quality can be used. Just look at how similar the lining is to other things like under armor, same tight weave. Some times I wear more than one layer along with multiple under garment layers. Got to be very hard for stink to get out when the wind can't get in. One thing about the stuff is washing it, do it only when it's visibly soiled, I don't wash mine more than twice a year. Keep it clean and stored and only put it on when entering the woods and take it of when your not hunting, doing something like gutting. Cook it as many times as you want, it's washing that kills the carbon. Is it worth retail, maybe. I find the stuff for around forty or fifty bucks an item but I bought most of mine when there was a huge debate on it's effectiveness and sales were effected. I also use Hawg's Vanishing hunter. One of the only scent killers you can gargle with.

The first deer I ever killed, I shot at 8 steps, on the ground, downwind, without a stitch of Scent-Lok type clothing. I'm sure you can find examples for and against, but to me, religious scent control and hunting the wind as best you can are the methods that kill deer and keep more money in your pocket.

I think it helps but idk if its worth the money because you should be hunting the wind anyway because i highly doubt a deer can walk directly down wind and it block all your scent...there is just to many things to consider because unless you have scent lok boots socks, pants, shirt, jacket, facemask, hat then the uncovered ares(regular camo)willl put off scent for them to detect so its kinda all or nothing in my opinion but it wont hurt and washing in scent free soap and keeping clothes outta house are all good things to do and not walking in your house or yard in your boots.

i dont believe that there are scent proof clothes. try this and tell me how well they work. eat a big bowl of chili, cut a good fart and see if you can smell it. if you can the scent lok and scent proofing doesnt work.
