I just figured out something today, and it is how many bucks I can kill given that we have a OBR:
1. Normal OBR 2. Urban Buck 3. Milatery Bow hunt x 2 bucks (if I kill a doe), Big Oaks Bow Hunt 4. Milatery Gun x 2 bucks (if I kill a doe), Big Oaks Gun Hunt 5. Milatery Gun x 1 buck Atterbury
7 BUCKS IN INDIANA!
I am also going to Missouri hunting for a buck, could be a good season. However, I'd be surprised if I release or pull the trigger on more then 2 bucks!

I can get three more after filling my one and only statewide buck tag.. 1) UDZ in Vanderburgh county 2) Harmonie park 3) Muscatatuk (which I will pass on as momma kind of wants me home Christmas eve.) It is still one less than we had in 2001.

Bottom line is you have to be where there are urban hunts, you have to be lucky enough to be drawn. If not you only have one. Which really means you only get a chance to get one. All others are bonus, if you are lucky.

But I'd rather be lucky, then have a belly ache anyday!!!

I've heard most folks that draw for those hunts are successful. I've never even tried any of those special hunts. Probably should.

Lucky to be drawn?
Do people really not get drawn for State Park or Military hunts? I started putting in about 5 years ago. I have been drawn EVERY single time I put in for a deer hunt. There was one time I put in for Muscatatuck for muzzleloader, but got drawn for bow (not too disappointed).
I get drawn every year for at least a couple hunts. This year I got drawn for 2 at Clifty and 2 at Muscatatuck.
Everyone I know around here that actually takes the time to fill out the cards correctly, gets drawn. Last year, I forgot to copy my lifetime license and send it in for my application for Pokagon. Technically, that should have thrown me out of the draw pool, but the State called me and said there were not enough to meet the draw quota, so if I faxed them a copy of my license I was in. I did it and the forms came a week or so later.
There are opportunities out there. You have to be willing to do some driving and often times hunt week days, but the opportunity is there.

I still think it would be nice if a guy could take 2 bucks without special road trips.

Mullis- that is a fact not a belly ache.
Dec- I think you probably hit the nail on the head when you said that not enough send off anymore for the drawn hunts. And yes back when I was sending off for the drawn hunts not getting selected was not unusual. I also think that if you have a partners license number it is easier toget selected. Back in the 70's, 80's when my hunting partner wanted to go on those hunts we entered into them. We got selected 3 times. After he moved I quit entering since going alone is not a lot of fun. I would just a soon stay home and hunt does.

The parks are not a hard draw.
The parks are culls and we shouldn't be in there just to hunt a buck.
I've put in for Crane ever since they opened back up and have yet to get drawn.
We are still one buck shy of where we were in 2001.

But still have ample opportunities to shoot more than 1 buck. The question begs to be asked: How many bucks are enough?

Why should we go to all of the trouble of putting in for draw hunts in hoping to get lucky (then hunting unfamiliar ground that we couldn't even scout ahead of time), scrounging for over priced lease ground in UDZ ($$$$), and driving many miles (More $$$$)to get that "ample opportunity" when we have more than sufficent bucks right where we were hunting in the first place? As said in another post somewhere on here the DNR said it didn't make any difference if it had ben one buck or two. Why cut ourselves short?

I've always believed anything worth doing is worth the investment. It all amounts to how much you want to put into it. Of course, you still have ample opportunities to shoot plenty of does right in your own backyard.

Hoyt, for someone who doesn't care either way about one buck or two you sure manage to turn up to support one buck quite often! Pbr makes an excellent point, the state park hunts are for herd reduction not trophy hunting. Another point to keep in mind is that at least one attempt at eliminating the extra UDZ and state park buck has been made. We would not have these opportunities if a certain group of hunters had succeeded in their efforts.
