Chilly windy evening, I finally got a chance to get out: my first evening hunt of the year and second time total. Had a really big doe step out of the corn and into the woods. She was 30-ish yards away. I drew and set my 30 yard pin in her direction. I could not get a shot. I let up on my bow, and she turned, slowly and walked back into the corn. I got a cahnce to stand up and look for her in a shooting lane or two towards the corn... Suddenly, she stuck her head back into the woods and walked in much closer. I drew- set the 20 yard pin on her chest, Whack- a deep spine shot(stepped it off later, only 15 yards). As she lay on the ground, I put another arrow into her to hasten her along. Dang she was big- biggest doe I've shot. Checked her in, brought her home. My kids went goofy, afew pics, and hung her in the garage. We cut her up tonight.

Great job hotshot. Not bad for a teacher ;D. I'm contemplating going out with my double-bull blind tonight regardless of the wind.

Pics coming. I still have the old fashioned 35 MM film- take it to the store for developing. Crazy thing: I heard movement earlier in the evening and looked to see what was up. As I turned, a racoon flinched about 6 inches from my elbow. He was climbing the tree I was in. I thought of shooting him- but then why shoot him with a broadhead that costs more that the pelt would get me? I did poke him a few times with an arrown to get him to go away. I'm taking a field point with me now incase he returns. BTW, when do coon get into prime condition? I figure I could make a little extra cash- lots of coon, a few fox and I saw a mink last fall in the woods I hunt.

Congrats on the doe. We saw 13 does & 1 buck last weekend, but no shot opportunities. Still too thick with all of the leaves on. I did manage to clear some shooting lanes & hope to connect this weekend.
Good luck to all!
