Has there ever been a study on the birth rate number of male verses female deer? Are more does born than bucks? With the ability to kill as many does as we can and that being most does are killed during the last leg or after the rut and have been bred. Most would have likley dropped one or up to three offspring, who's to say that the pregnant doe you kill may have been carrying the new state record buck. I hear that the deer population is at the highest its ever been, but with so many does being killed what does the future hold? It takes some doe to make a buck ;D

It's been awhile back but I read an article about this. It seems like 51% to 49% in favor of does.

Like woodmaster, I read an article on it last year. I remember the doe drop percentage was higher.

Since triplets aren't unusual for whitails I wouldn't worry about whether or not you accidentally snuffed a potential record book buck when you got it's mom , there's no shortage of additional chances for one via other does .
