Took my son out for our first hunt of the year on Sunday. In the morning after we waited out the rain got into our stand and saw nothing at all. Went to a different location in the afternoon. All kinds of animals moviing around then finally saw a nice high 4 point about 60 yards away. Told my son to sit still and wait for it to get closer. Man did he get excited. No matter how much I said be quiet he couldn't contain himself everytime the buck showed itself my son would point and say there it is dad. This went on for almost two hours and the deer would not come into our stand. Not 100% sure but I'm sure the deer was headed our way if the boy had of kept quiet I'm sure I would have had a shot. The thing is even though I did not get the animal I had a great day with my son and he learned a lot about how deer react in the wild. Next time will be different. I couldn't care less about the deer what a great day in the woods.

Seems like everyone has a story about the younger ones on hunts. Hope to have my own in a few years when my kids get older, my daughter is 3 and my son is almost 5 months...
Sounds like you had a good day nonetheless!

Now that my son is in his thirtys I can remember in great detail our first years hunting ,they are some of my fondest memories. like the time in Texas ,he was about eight,I woke him up in the stand when a nice eight point came in to view. He shot the buck , his first, dead in his tracks, let out a whoop, and steped right out of the stand missing the steps. He landed face first in the Texas mud, jumped up and ran to the deer with me trying to catch up. we both laughed for several minutes as we field dressed the Buckand rubbed the mud off of his face. So Guys treasure each moment with your kids, that is what you will remember most in your later years.

hey guys, these great stories reminds me when me and my granson goes hunting, when he got to the age 12(he"s been hunting a couple years and we hunt side by side), i thought when he got to 13 to let him hunt alone about 100 yards apart, after this evening hunt he said he didn"t enjoy as much by himself, so were back side by side.so we really do enjoy sharing what we see and do. great memories are hard too beat. take a youngster on your next outdoor experience. turkey scout

Don't forget the new youth turkey season this spring. I think it will be 10 times more successful than the youth deer season was.
