Well all, I am a very, very happy person today. The buck that I had been watching all summer gave me the opportunity for a shot last night at 7:15. He had gave me the slip the last couple weeks as he changed his pattern from what he had been on. He was back at running the same route that he had been on back in July when trophyhunter and I seen him out in the beans. Anyway, last night around 7:00, I had 2 smaller bucks come out of a white oak patch behind me and they cut accross the bean field heading toward one of my plots. They had disappeared out of the beans for a short time when I looked back over that way and seen this deer standing there @ about 150 yds in the beans feeding, but I couldn't tell what it was since it's head was down. I pulled out the binos and took a look and seen it was him. This is when the nerves took complete control over my body. I thought I knew where he was heading and it more then likely wasn't my way, so I thought what the heck, I'll throw out a couple soft grunts and see what he does. After 2 soft grunts, he thew the head up and starred my way for a minute or so then went back to feeding. Once he brought his head back up out of the beans I threw out one more soft grunt and that's all it took. He came straight to me like I had him on a string, right to my stand. Like I said, my nerves were working me over like no other, and needless to say it wasn't the most impressive shot I've ever made in my life. I waited til dark to get down and then went to pick up a buddy and we went back about an hour later. We trailed blood to a fence row that he had jumped which led him into a very tall weed field. At that time, he was on someone else's property and knowing that he had enough in him to cross that fence, I chose to pull out and wait til morning since it was supposed to get into the 40's over night. All night I tossed and turned wondering if he was dead or just wounded or if the coyotes were on him and on and on. Was a very long night to say the least. This morning, I got up early, called in to work, took the boy to school, and then headed out the see if I could get permission to look for him on the property that he crossed on to. Thankfully, I got it and ended up recovering him. A long night of being at the very lowest point possible turned into being the highest morning possible. I was truly blessed to find this deer and I couldn't be any happier!!!!
I hope everyone has a great fall and the best of luck to each of you!!!!
Woody, could I get you to add this to my team #9 score if you would please. He has 11 scorable points. Thanks.
